What is OCIA? The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process established for the universal church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation -- Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. The Rite speaks of the conversion as a “spiritual journey or pilgrimage.” Centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church he founded, this pilgrimage takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, significant experience of the parish community, and commitment to the liturgical and moral life of the Catholic faithful. The OCIA process is a restoration of the ancient catechumenate, arising within the first three centuries following the era of the apostles. It was the early Church’s way of Christianizing the pagan Roman Empire. The Second Vatican Council called for the restoration and use of this venerable and powerful method of initiation for the worldwide Church. Are you curious about the Catholic Church? Has your search for the truth led you to the Catholic Church? Are you wondering what it takes to “come back” to the Church? Come meet some faithful Catholics (including our wonderful priests) who love the Lord. This year's time frame for our OCIA process is September 17, 2024 through Pentecost 2025. This time is spent sharing the truths of the Catholic faith and the fellowship of our church family. Presented in an open and welcoming environment, we invite you to learn what Catholics believe. These sessions are intended for people who are not Catholic or who have not completed their initiation as Catholics. Anyone wishing to learn more about our Catholic Faith with the intent of coming into full communion with the Church is welcome to participate in the OCIA program. The purpose of the class is to present the fundamental tenets of our Faith in the hope that it begins the lifelong journey of those who seek the Truth. The typical classes begin in September and go through to Pentecost. But you might not be typical. Call us and we will figure it out.
