We live in a time of great crisis. So many in our world are tormented with desolation and despair. Yet the Gospel is exploding with joy! Our world is desperately in need of a joyful Christian witness. The new evangelization will be marked by Christian joy! Everyone wants pleasure. More deeply, everyone wants happiness. Most deeply, everyone desires joy! To fully appreciate the Joyful Mysteries, we must enter into the longing and waiting of Israel and try to imagine a world with out a Savior. The Word became flesh and exceeded our wildest expectations!

Catholic Social Teaching with Nancy Fontenot
Beginning in the Spring of 2024, Nancy Fontenot, a St. Lawrence parishioner, will be presenting a study on
“Papal Encyclicals & Catholic Social Teaching: A Historical Path Study”.
Ms. Fontenot is a Restorative Justice practitioner. After a 30-year career as a high school English teacher, she completed a M.A. in Ethics & Society with a focus on Restorative Justice & Catholic Social Teaching (Fordham '23). Nancy is also a graduate of Louisiana State University (B.A. '89) and Yale University (M.A. '91).
This 16 week course is in two parts.
The first 8-week study will be the Origins & History of Catholic Social Teaching from Pope Leo XIII to Pope Paul VI.
The second 8-week study will be the Contemporary Contributions to Catholic Social Teaching from Pope John Pul II to Pope Francis.
BUT, FIRST..... to get us ready for the 16 week course & to help with our Lenten observances,
Ms. Fontenot will offer a series of “Virtue Circles”.
Restorative Justice Circles nurture community through engaged encounters.
Restorative practices help us step into our best selves & help us figure out how to live well together by uplifting the sacred possibility of human connection.
